Patently was created with one mission: to make patents simple.
The idea
Patently was created with one mission: to make patents simple. The idea started in 2006 when Jerome Spaargaren and Heather McCann, two unconventional patent attorneys, were frustrated by how difficult it was to find out who owns what patents. It became clear to them that the market did not offer a solution for this that was fast, intuitive, and embraced new technology.
At that time they were busy building a patent firm, EIP, which Jerome had founded in 2000. By 2010 EIP had decided to create a search department and welcomed Andrew Samm to head it up. Andrew immediately understood the problems Jerome and Heather had with existing solutions and over many pints and many patents, the genesis of Patently began.
Fast forward to 2018, when we launched Patently: a portal into patents made for professionals by professionals. After positive feedback, we decided to keep growing Patently by introducing emerging technologies to its product family to create the most efficient patent insights and drafting solutions.
Today, the company provides a suite of advanced tools to make patent searching simple, while continuing to demystify patents by pioneering new technology and regularly advocating for advancements in the patent industry.
