About us
Patents are hard. The tools shouldn't be.

A gap
Patent work is exacting. For a long time, the software wasn't. Databases were clunky, interfaces were slow, and the best tools available were still a generation behind the ones patent professionals used for everything else in their lives.
So the founders built the software they wished they had. They called it Patently.
The data work came first — including the ownership database provided during Unwired Planet v Huawei, the landmark FRAND case that set the framework for global patent rate-setting. Patently launched as a product in 2018: patent tools, made by patent people, built on the foundation the team had already laid.
Patently is built from the data up. Underneath every tool is a family-level view of the patent universe — the foundation everything else depends on. Onardo, our AI assistant, works across that foundation on the full arc of patent work: invention disclosure, drafting, searching, prosecution, oppositions, licensing, and litigation. Used by attorneys, inventors, and in-house teams who want the work done properly and faster than before.
The itch keeps coming back. If something in patents is harder than it should be, that's what we're working on next.
